Tin Hut Talk - Graeme MacPherson
Thursday 17th September, 06:30 pm — Shoreham Fort
Our seventh and penultimate guest speaker for our 2026 'Tin Hut Talks' series, in the last useable WWI Nissen Hut in the country.
This month's Tin Hut Talk guest speaker is Graeme MacPherson, serving Army officer, accredited battlefield guide and Commonwealth War Graves Commission speaker, who explores the remarkable career of Percy Hobart, one of Britain's foremost armoured warfare experts. Discover how Hobart, who ultimately served as General Officer Commanding, assembled his legendary 79th Armoured Division - the famous "Hobart's Funnies", a revolutionary collection of specialist vehicles that proved pivotal during D-Day and the subsequent campaigns.
Drawing on four decades of military experience, Graeme reveals the innovation and
vision behind how these extraordinary machines were assembled under Hobart’s
command, changing the course of the Normandy invasion.
Do come and join us in welcoming Graeme to Shoreham Fort for the first time, where you will find a hot drink waiting for you which included in the price.
Doors will be open from 18:30 for a 19:00 start.

Tin Hut Talk - Stewart Angell
Thursday 15th October, 06:30 pm — Shoreham Fort
Our final guest speaker for our 2026 'Tin Hut Talks' series, in the last useable WWI Nissen Hut in the country. We're back 18th March 2027.
This month's Tin Hut Talk guest speaker is Stewart Angell, who has been a part of Shoreham Fort's history for many years but this is the first time he has joined us for a Tin Hut Talk.
Discover the classified operations of Sussex's secret Second World War resistance force. When invasion threatened, specially trained Home Guard 'Auxiliary Units' prepared for
guerrilla warfare against German forces, ready to sabotage communications and supply lines to prevent their march on London.
Stewart is an achaeologist and spent four years uncovering their hidden hideouts and
interviewing surviving members, reveals this extraordinary story. As co-founder of Sussex Military Research and chairman of Sussex Military History Society, Stewart brings decades of research to life, exposing a little-known chapter of Britain's wartime defences that could have changed history.
Do come and join us in welcoming Stewart to Shoreham Fort, where you will find a hot drink waiting for you which included in the price.
Doors will be open from 18:30 for a 19:00 start.
